It takes courage to pursue one's own destiny. In Paulo Coelho’s book The Alchemist, he told a story of a young boy's adventure. An adventure that even the protagonist did not expect to have, however he made it through many hardships and obstacles to find something that was in the beginning metaphorical. Everyone has dreams, and it falls to oneself to decide whether it is worth it to seek upon or not. An Accomplishment on a certain difficult task or duty in everyday life is satisfying, but an achievement in life? Now that is something not just to celebrate on but should also be a feat that is shared and passed on.
The writer was able to elaborate small situations that captured its themes but failed to get the reader’s attention. Trying to imagine scenarios in a theatrical manner has proven difficult, although the writer tries hard at doing so. However, emotions are able to spark if one understands what the writer was portraying in his light novel, as the representation of certain things required some perception with one's consciousness. The smooth transitions between one location to another was splendidly well done and the decision to keep the number of locations small was a smart move.
Most of the characters were not given a name. The protagonist’s name was only ever mentioned once in the beginning which was great. Mainly because this book was very story driven and depended heavily on the reader’s imagination. In this way the reader can focus on the scenarios and events that are happening. This was the most successful part of Paulo Coelho’s book, anyone that is engaged in the adventure does not question who they are following on the story, they just know who it is that is being described, as if we were a part of the characters, as if we WERE the characters, and it is a tremendous feat that is not easily achieved.
Paulo invigorates the readers by elaborating situations with as much fine details as possible but the lack of soul in the plot itself turns one off easily as it lacks proper interesting scenarios to imagine on. The journey of the protagonist was not exciting due to the reason that the hardship, troubles, problems or concerns did not seem to be of any issue in any regard. It includes divine properties to the theme itself as it goes toward the involvement of mythical beings of sorts while avoiding any religious virtue as much as possible which was expertly crafted.
The book was dull and enjoyable at the same time. There are certain aspects in its writing that require some refinement, one might argue that one requires adequate knowledge to be able to enjoy this form of literature. There were some elements that were skillfully written, especially during the part where he was trying to persuade the spirits to transform him into the wind. It was marvellous, one of the most enjoyable parts of the story. Other than that, it was overall a pretty good work.
